Membership Terms and Conditions

  1. Smart Home Technology Integrator Members must comply with all applicable state/province, county, country, and/or municipal licensing requirements. Members are required to submit license number(s) and name of jurisdiction granting license to CEDIA.
  2. Smart Home Technology Integrator Members must carry general liability or similar insurance in the minimum amount of $1,000,000 USD or equivalent and are required to submit the name of insurance provider and policy number(s) to CEDIA. This requirement is not applicable to Home Technology Professional Members located in countries where general liability or similar insurance is not available.
  3. Until all membership requirements are fulfilled, an applicant is granted provisional membership for a maximum of 6 months after payment is processed. If requirements are not met at conclusion of 6-month provisional period, CEDIA can limit access to benefits or revoke membership.
  4. An applicant's current operations will determine its membership category.
  5. Dues payment will be processed at time of application submission.
  6. Membership is non-transferable and non-refundable.
  7. By submitting application, applicant agrees to adhere to the CEDIA Code of Ethics and consents to receive all solicitations from CEDIA and its authorized licensees, via telemarketing, electronic mail, texts, fax, and/or other electronic means.
  8. If a company-based membership is purchased, then each employee is considered a CEDIA member representative and may take advantage of member benefits.
  9. Individual membership grants access to a limited number of benefits for one person.
  10. CEDIA Membership is renewed annually on a calendar year, January – December. Your second year of membership will be a pro rate amount based on your year one join date.
  11. Applicants located in the United Kingdom will be subject to VAT, in accordance with HM Revenue & Customs Notice 741 – Place and Supply of Service.
  12. A membership may be revoked or terminated for violation of the CEDIA Code of Ethics, CEDIA's governance documents or other CEDIA policies.

CEDIA Member Code of Ethics

Each CEDIA Member shall abide by the following principles:

  • Provide to all persons truthful and accurate information with respect to the professional performance of duties.
  • Maintain the highest standards of personal conduct to bring credit to the custom electronic and design industry.
  • Promote and encourage the highest level of ethics within the profession.
  • Responsibly uphold all laws and regulations relating to CEDIA policies and activities.
  • Strive for excellence in all aspects of the industry.
  • Use only legal and ethical means in all industry activities.
  • Protect the public against fraud and unfair practices.
  • Use written contracts clearly stating all charges, services, products and other essential information. To the extent that the customer does not own the software code for all programming implemented by the member, contracts should address the parties' rights and responsibilities as to such codes.
  • Demonstrate respect for every professional within the industry by consistently performing at or above the standards acceptable to the industry.
  • Make a commitment to increase professional growth and knowledge by participating in technical and industry business training.
  • Contribute knowledge to professional meetings and journals to raise the professionalism of the industry.
  • Maintain the highest standards of safety.
  • When providing services or products, maintain in full force adequate or appropriate insurance.
  • Cooperate with professional colleagues, suppliers and employees to provide the highest quality service.
  • Extend these same professional commitments to all persons supervised or employed.
  • Subscribe to CEDIA's Code of Ethics and abide by the CEDIA Bylaws.

CEDIA Ethics Grievances

CEDIA’s Ethics Grievance process is designed to address breaches by a CEDIA member of the principles listed above. It is not a mechanism to settle business disputes between companies nor a substitute for legal proceedings.

Any complaint against a CEDIA member, whether by a member or non-member, shall be initiated by filing a complaint in writing and submitted to ethics@cedia.org. The complaint must be brought to the attention of CEDIA’ Ethics Chair within one year of the date of the alleged unethical behavior. Please note in your email which specific principle(s) above you believe were violated. To protect the due process rights of our members and all parties involved, CEDIA reserves the right to share your complaint with the company or individual named in the complaint.
