Morning Workshop (9am to noon): Networking Foundations for Custom Integration
Modern AV systems don’t fail because of bad gear - they fail because of unstable networks. In this accessible, big-picture morning session, we’ll demystify networking and show why it has become the backbone of every successful residential and light commercial project.
Designed for installers, project managers, designers, and sales professionals alike, this session focuses on practical fundamentals - not deep technical theory. You’ll learn why most AV issues originate in the network, how WiFi coverage and capacity impact performance, what routers, switches, access points, and VLANs actually do (in plain language), and how to recognize the difference between ISP problems and LAN problems. We’ll also cover how to confidently talk to clients about their network without overwhelming them - setting expectations, explaining value, and positioning networking as a professional service rather than an afterthought.

Afternoon Workshop (1pm to 5pm): Technical Network Design & Commissioning for CI Technicians
The afternoon session shifts into technician-focused best practices for designing, configuring, and commissioning robust custom integration networks. This is where we move from understanding concepts to building high-performance systems that are stable, scalable, and service-call resistant.
We’ll dive into router and switch configuration strategies, VLAN implementation for AV, surveillance, control, and AV-over-IP traffic, proper WiFi design for both coverage and capacity, and real-world troubleshooting techniques that isolate ISP versus internal network issues quickly. You’ll also learn commissioning workflows, documentation standards, and remote management strategies that dramatically reduce callbacks and improve long-term support.
